good for my soul

i made a dress out of a sheet.
a pretty vintage sheet from an estate sale.

it is the colors of autumn.
it is the colors of the waxy
yellow leaves i that flutter through the air
i retrieve from the soft grass
hold in my hand
press in my heavy books.

this yellow and gold...
they are some of my favorites.
they are good for my soul.
that and this sapphire blue
spotless and clean
sky above me.

Oh, my goodness, dear Abigail! Wait till Lucy in the Sky and your other fashion conscious girlfriends see you in this dress. You look adorable in it and the colors do indeed fit perfectly with those painted by nature in autumn. Thanks for including some pictures of the changing leaves in your vicinity. Here in Florida I don't have the opportunity to enjoy the change of seasons like you do.

I'm very happy to see you snuggling cute little Daisy, my favorite blog dog.

Once again, you look wonderful in the dress you created - so smart, fresh and feminine. Well done, Abigail! I wish you a happy Friday and a safe and happy weekend, dear friend!

You did a beautiful job on the dress, looks lovely! Reminds me of the dresses Maria made in the Sound of Music for the Von Trapp children out of curtains.

The dress is so beautiful, it looks just lovely on you. And I'm lovely all these beautiful yellow and gold tones in these pictures.

Awesome dress! You do a lot with creative projects. Are you home-schooled? I had to go to your "about me" page to even find out how old you were, because I've never thought about it before!

That dress is amazing and it is so cool you made it from a vintage sheet! I think you could sell dresses like that if you wanted to. A dream of mine is to make a dress one day, I think it would be such a wonderful feeling to wear something that you made yourself. (Although that project is probably years in the future, I don't even have a sewing machine or a big enough table!)

How splendidly pretty! Awesome work, dear gal I love seeing the timelessly sweet, endearingly wonderful things that talented sewers make from vintage sheets. Owning an old school sheet dress of my own one day would be such a dream come true!

yes, but that's not why i do a lot of creative stuff. just how i am, i guess.

thank you, Sarah.
i used to think i'd like to sew and sell, but then i realized that i do it for me. it is relaxing and a good creative outlet and i'm not sure i'd like to do it all the time.
here's the thing. sewing can be hard, but i have a little walmart sewing machine from my birthday and i cut out the pattern on my floor and move my computer to sew on my desk... it may be closer than you think :D

I don't think being home-schooled means that you're creative; I DO think that being home-schooled allows creative people much more time for the projects they love to do : ) I was home-schooled too, and it was great to have so much of my day free for music, reading, writing, knitting, and enjoying time with my family! It was such a blessing.

I agree. That's cool you were, too. :)

What a beautiful dress, it's so perfect for the season! I admire how much drive you have to make things like this, I'm such a terrible procrastinator.

Gorgeous dress! It works for summer, fall, and with a cardigan, winter too. So practical. :) And made with a sheet? Cool!
