another season, another dress

or: spring self portraits.

last evening there was a pretty patch of golden light in the upstairs hallway.
it slipped below the overhang of frothy clouds to end the dark day with light.
and about an evening before that,
i finished sewing a spring dress.
it's okay to add a strand of pearls and windblown hair and a free heart.
spring is a very funny time for me.
for very many reasons.
but embracing.
that's what i've been learning.
embracing the good.

i haven't been blogging a lot or making photographs.
or sewing for that matter (at least compared to other times).
and when i do sew, it's a show dress.
there's more show nights than free nights lately.
and more still to come.
someday i will write more about this and what it means,
how it's affecting me and so forth (because it is greatly and i need to).
someday i will blog more and photograph and make more films.
but for now,
i'm just content to put on a pretty dress,
stand in weakening gold for a moment,
and let things come as they come.
i still have things to say.
i still read the words you people write
(both in comments
[ie. thats why i moderate, not because of bad comments, but so i'm sure to read them]
and on your blogs).
but be patient with me, for i am learning and growing.
for we all are. and change is inevitable.

Hi, dear Abigail! I can think of few images more soul satisfying than the ones in this series which could be captioned "girl in spring dress with banjo." You look fresh, lovely and feminine in your new frock and I know that everyone who follows you will agree. You continue to be the most enigmatic of all my friends. You allow us mere glimpses of yourself like pieces of a puzzle. Who, whom or what are you looking for as you peer out your window? What does that last picture mean? Perhaps I should not attempt analyze but rather to simply marvel and appreciate your magic. I do.

Please give Daisy a big smooch for me and enjoy your Friday and your weekend, dear friend Abigail! I hope you can make it over to my blog Saturday or shortly thereafter for a very special birthday celebration. Thank you!

We're cut from the same cloth, you and I. I swear it's true.

Sweet dear, in all the years I've been blogging, you are the only other person I can ever recall encountering who moderated their comments so as to ensure they read all of them. I have done precisely the same thing since day one and while, yes, objectively, I also moderate to weed out spammers, the far greater reason is so as to never miss a single word that anyone takes the time and care to say to me.

Beautiful post and images - your description of the light as "weakening gold" is absolutely perfect.

♥ Jessica

Wow, fab job! I love the fit on that, it's so feminine with the full skirt. :) Sorry I haven't been on in awhile, school has caught me, haha!

Um this dress, and these photographs. How beautiful!
Even though I don't know your face I can feel your presence in these photos and that is something that I think really sets apart the artists from the rest.
The light is just amazing.
It sort of feel a bit Alice in Wonderland-ish?
