sometimes books translate my thoughts

"Most of the time, I act like it doesn't bother me that I don't talk much.
Usually I'm pretty convincing, even to myself.
But sometimes at night, when i hear the lions roaring and they're really going at it, just growling and yowling, and roaring like a jet engine, sometimes I wish I could be like them, that I could just yell out whatever I was thinking or feeling and not care one whit who heard.
Sometimes, in the middle of the night, I can almost convince myself that I'm going to do it.
That I'll just start talking.
But by the time I wake up in the morning, the lions are always silent, and so am I."

Hi, Abigail! I notice that this book has garnered many favorable reviews and I'd like to read it. I was just a boy in the 1950s and yet I have vivid memories of racially divided Little Rock and other cities that became battle grounds in the fight for desegregation. If you see yourself in Marlee then please know that you are not alone. I am much the same. In social settings I am shy and usually let others do the talking. It is here on the printed page that I come out to play and feel free to express myself.

Please give sweet Daisy a pat and a treat for me and enjoy the rest of your weekend, dear friend Abigail!

That's such a nice quote (with equally nice pictures to go with it). I've never read that book before, but now I'd like to.
I've felt the same way as you've described before, so don't feel like you're the only one. I think there are more people like that than they'd like to admit :).

Lovely quote. It's wonderful when you stumble across a passage in a book that perfectly articulates a feeling you've previously been unable to describe.

That's a great quote, I have felt similar to that before. I love the photos you chose to go with it as well.

How interesting! There is something to be said about the appreciation of quiet.
