to old books: i love you

here are some things i bought today.
it may not look like much to some
but i'm over the moon happy right now.

old books (and their illustrations)
are probably one of the most understated and under appreciated things in the world.

may the chase always be exciting and the good guys always win

I'm gonna steal that copy of Huck Finn. Here's to old books, may they long remain in the hands of an unsuspecting dealer who sells them for a song ;)

old books! yes!!!...those are keepers!
would you believe me if I said I've never read "huckleberry fin?"...well I'm mexican, it's not a popular story in México but still, makes me feel like Joel in "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind" when he tells Clementine he doesn't know jokes about it (if you've seen the movie, you'll get what I'm talking about)...

regarding your comment on my make-up post: thanks for respecting my point of view... as for the skin irritations, I'm sorry about that, but let me tell you something..I used to have bad "teen" like acne and my skin was super dry all the time, peeling off and so... until I stopped wearing make up it got well... sometimes you need to let the skin heal on it's own, be patient... but makeup is just junk you are adding to your natural and fresh face... I got better without it and of course, washing it twice a day and wearing day cream/moisturizer only in the morning... couldn't hurt to try, no? take care!

I agree with you that old books are some of the best things in the world, but are so overlooked. Some of my favorite books came from the used book sale my school would have. I get kind of fed up with all these "modern" books being about killing other people and magic and stuff, and old vintage books seem to have plots that appeal to me more. And, of course, adorable illustrations ;).

Why not buying old books? They aren't so expensive and the stories are also very good!
Last week I also found some stuff in a thrift shop, 2 frames filled with photos from the 1940s, some booklets from the 50s with romans and an other book: the dairy from Etty Hillesum. She lived in the Netherlands during WW2 and because she was a jew she was deported to Auschwitz and that's also were she was killed... I can't wait to start reading her dairy!

I love old books too, there's nothing like them. I like collecting old copies of Alice in Wonderland with different illustrations in them. I don't like modern book illustrations much, I much prefer the old ones. I love thinking about my books history too: who owned it before, what did they think of the story? Did they treasure it or not rate it much?

Hi Abigail! I wanted to ask you to be a part of my great unknown series, but then I realised that you didn't have an email or anything! Anyway, I would really love to interview you, so just let me know if you'd be interested :)
ps. I love old books. A lot. They are definitely under appreciated

Wow, even more in common! I am a big collector of old books and magazines. Do you ever collect the Happy Hollister books? Those are one of my favorite series to collect and, of course, I love the old Nancy Drews with the plain blue covers. I just love all old books. :) I once bought four 1940s Cherry Ames nurse books and they were very interesting. I loved that they had a little notice in the front of the book about how they were preserving paper and other goods for the army so this was a wartime-friendly book.

Those are the most beautiful books! I love looking through old books, especially children's books because the illustrations are always so gorgeous.

Love those old tv series books. I have a couple that belonged to my dad one was a story from Bonanza and the other from Lassie. There's nothing quite like the smell of good old books too.
