The Sunset Project - Week 23

there is something about a sunset that is so wild
untamed
and free.
it means the close of a day,
the promise of a new adventure.
Roy Rogers and the Lone Ranger had the right idea,
provoking the feeling of old west romanticism in our young hearts
as they disappeared into the western sky.

i'm sure i'm not the only one who cannot help but yearn for adventure
dream of the exciting tales of western lands
and hope to someday chase the closest star and it's host of magenta clouds
letting it lead me to places i've only read about.

Hello, dear Abigail and Daisy! This is another super set. Last Sunday's evocative sunset reminds me of the Glen Campbell hit "Wichita Lineman." Monday's looks like an abstract painting of Daisy standing on her hind legs begging for a treat. Wednesday's looks like a star exploded on the horizon. Friday's scene with the railroad tracks reminds us that life is a journey and although we cannot see beyond the horizon we can choose to have faith about what lies in store for us. Saturday's is more heavenly handwriting, an exclamation point at the end of another fine week in Kansas.

Dear Abigail, I want to let you know that I will be publishing my 6 year blog anniversary post this coming Sunday. At that time I will be taking a 3 week break from blogging to visit family in California. While I'm away I will not be available to read your blog or comment on your posts. When I return to active blogging early next month, I hope you and I can pick up where we left off and resume our wonderful friendship. Thank you for understanding.

There really is something picturesque about old western sunsets (from what I imagine, anyway). You've definitely captured its beauty through your poem and pictures. I love the sunsets on the 7th and the 9th, though the one with the train tracks is just awesome. It looks pretty and mysterious, and it kind of reminds me of something from a drama film from the 60s or 70s.

I was thinking about you on Sunday night, dear Abigail, as we had what is certainly the most sublimely beautiful sunset of the year so far here. Vivid, almost unbelievable shades of wild tangerine, hot pink, lush violet and inky blue danced across the sky after a day that got up to 42C and illuminated the town for a few brief minutes. I only had my cell with me and did grab a couple photos, but they absolutely pale (quite literally!) in comparison to how grand and glorious this vibrant sunset (a rarity for our part of the world) was in person. I'm sure your lens would have memorialized its splendor so well!

♥ Jessica
