conflicting dreams

a good morning:
waking up in a new place
looking out the window
and seeing horses.
so i got my coat and made new friends.

i love adventure, travel, new places.
but my heart lurches
breaks a little
and i forget about everything
except the soft hide
intense eyes
broad forehead.
warm breath on my gloved hand
plod of hooves following me
nudge of a velvet whiskered nose.

you see folks
the road gets in your blood
your mind
the air you breathe.

but when the air i breathe
smells of horses
earth and cattle
when my mind is overtaken by 1000 lb. animals,
with farming and ranching  in my blood,
the open road's clutches on the forefront of my brain
aren't as strong for a moment.

P.S. a very short film for the kind folks who own the ranch and the heart-breakers (beautiful horses)

Horses are such beautiful creatures. I understand why people feel afraid of them, but I love them. And your posts, obviously. Life is a big balancing act.

You have a balanced life and a wide range of interests, dear Abigail. I am especially thankful to know how much you love and respect animals. Horses are gentle, intelligent friends. You can sense their dignity. Being in close proximity to a horse centers you and calms your soul. You feel a connection.

In addition to the wonderful pictures of animals and the banjo tune, I also appreciated this latest batch of what I will call "layered" pictures, the ones in which you use glass in the foreground to reflect images of things behind you such as bricks, wires and sky. This fascinating technique turns ordinary pictures into extraordinary pieces of art. I salute you for thinking so creatively as you search for subjects.

Dear little Daisy has been photographed more than Miley Cyrus. She seems to love having the camera pointed at her. I hope she got along well with the other dogs, the kitty and the farm animals you encountered in your travels.

Thank you for another interesting, entertaining and heartwarming post, dear friend Abigail. Enjoy the rest of your week!

You can just box up that pony and put it in the mail for my daughter for Christmas. Okay? Okay. LOL There is nothing better than zipping up your jacket and putting on your boots to go out and face the day when it includes cows, horses, and good hay.

Could you and the puppers sneak the tiny horse in your car and drop it off in my backyard? I keep telling my husband we need a horse. He keeps saying no. The little one would be perfect!
Every time I read one of your posts I think it's my favorite. Then you write a new one and that one becomes my favorite! This one just became my favorite!

So beautiful, did you lay down several tracks yourself or did you have some friends on the other instruments? And as a suburban girl, I've always found the country so refreshing and calm. Maybe I romanticize it a little, but when it's that lovely how can you not? Also, I recommend "It's so peaceful in the country" sung by Mildred Bailey. :)
