THE SUNSET PROJECT - WEEK 47

finally
a few bold and colorful skies this week.
it seems like it's been cloudy all of december.
but the cold seems to refresh the sky
the thin air rousing things
making the colors much more intense.
a good kansas sunset in the winter.
can't be beat.

daisy and i have taken up 'sunset chasing'.
(since last summer brought with it the terrifying
but interesting experience
that is getting a drivers license)
we sometimes hop into a car
exploring the unassuming gravel roads outside of town.
the roads run in a grid here on the prairie.
at every mile there's a corner.
there's no getting lost.
standing in the middle of the road for a while.
finding old buildings.
trying to get around the farmstead
over the hill
chasing the sky.

Beautiful observation, sweet dear. It's true, sometimes the cold does seem to refresh and "clean out" the sky, riding it of dull hues, fizzled clouds, and undecided temperatures. I tend to enjoy the especially cold, crisp, clear days of winter for that very reason.

Big hugs & joyful New Year's wishes,
♥ Jessica

Hi, dear Abigail! I never heard of sunset chasing, but I can picture you and Daisy roaming around your part of the state searching for just the right vantage point and the right moment to take the evening's picture. I'm a little worried that the two of you will have so much fun sunset chasing that you will take up storm chasing in the summertime and wind up like Dorothy and Toto in the path of a Kansas twister. :)

It's funny but I can almost feel the chilly air when I look at these peaceful skies. Thank you for sharing another week of celestial splendor with us. I hope you and Daisy are having a wonderful holiday weekend. Please give that little bundle of joy a pat and a biscuit for me. God bless!

It's so freeing to get a drivers license isn't it? There's nothing quite like being able to jump in a car all by yourself and just go wherever you want! Great photos as always :)

When you go sunset chasing, do you ever get spotted by a passerby who gives you a weird look? I always feel so self-conscious and wish that people would just act like I wasn't there. But it must look strange and aimless for all of the busy bees out in the world.

yes yes yes. but it's better when sunset chasing though. i go out on the back roads and hardly even see anyone. it's when i'm on my bike on the edge of town or closer to a main road that the small town lookyloos cruise by and hit the brake to go extra slow.
