the good old days are today.

september went by with frighting speed.
all of the sudden october is here.
i just turned my calendar
and all the wonderful future plans greeted me.
the upcoming adventures
the busy weekends
the travels.
the times i will look back on and smile.
just as i remembered and smiled as i turned the page on september.
just as i remember and smile as i think of last year.

i've been thinking...
i and many around me
view 'the good old days' as a fun happy time in the 1950s or something.
but for a teen like me,
these are the happy and fun
golden and exciting days.
listen kids:
these are the days
today
this week
this month
this year
that you and i will look back on 40 years from now
and say 'yes,
those were the good old days.'

Hi, dear Abigail! You are absolutely right. 40 or 50 years from now you will be waxing nostalgic about the twenty-tens, just as I do about the 1950s and 60s. You will refer to these as the good old days. These times are especially good because you have your youth and your health. They are gifts that too many people take for granted. Believe me, now's the time to take good care of yourself. Live clean. Live right. Maintain a wholesome discipline. Get plenty of fresh air and exercise. Do everything you can to stay fit, healthy and drug free. If you take care of your body today it will take care of you tomorrow, meaning 50 years from now and you will thank yourself. I know you well by now, well enough to realize that you are already doing these things. I admire you tremendously, Abigail. I hope you are having a fabulous week. Please give Daisy a treat and a pat on the head for me.

I agree! As I get older I remember my 20's probably the fondest though I know the best is yet to come. I can see it in the twinkle of my daughter's eye.

It's funny, although I'm a vintage girl through and through I've never looked back on times past that I never even lived as being better to actually live in, I just prefer them in terms of music and fashion. I always can't help but think of all of the inequality and political issues, the rights we take for granted nowadays that would have been denied to so many back then. We still have leaps and bounds to make in these areas and I prefer to look forward rather than back. So I entirely agree with you, it's so easy to have a "grass is greener" mindset but it's so important to step back and see the full picture. You in particular Abigail are a perfect example that life is what you make it, and that if you look for beauty you will see it all around you as shines through in your photographs.

I think there is a lot of truth in your words. It is the little things that we experience now that we will look back on and remember with a smile in days to come. That's why I think it is so important to embrace the little things in life, and your photographs remind me of those precious moments in time.

I agree completely! It's easy to carry on with the rush of every day life and forget to take a minute to enjoy all the special little moments.

i totally agree. for music and fashion, i love older times. but i've never wanted to actually live then. people still had problems and bad things were still happening. and thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for the complements.
